Het zorgt er namelijk voor dat het glas een mooie “ping” als geluid maakt bij het proosten. Tevens is kristalglas steviger dan normaal glas en zal minder snel breken. Wat houdt loodvrij in? Kristalglas is een mengsel van materialen waaronder normaal gesproken ook lood. Omdat lood in principe giftig is zoeken steeds meer fabrikanten voor loodvrije oplossingen.
