Sancerre “La Noue” Rouge 2023 van Claude Riffault is een verfijnde en terroirgedreven Pinot Noir met een uitgesproken frisse en elegante signatuur. In de neus aroma’s van rode kers, framboos en wilde aardbei, aangevuld met rozenblaadjes, fijne kruiden en een subtiele aardse toets. In de mond is de wijn lichtvoetig maar precies, met sappig rood fruit, levendige zuren en zeer fijnkorrelige tannines. De afdronk is lang en zuiver, met een frisse, kalkachtige spanning die het koele Sancerre-terroir prachtig weerspiegelt.

Vinificatie.
De druiven worden met de hand geoogst van biologisch bewerkte percelen met kalk- en silexbodems. Na een zorgvuldige selectie volgt een zachte vinificatie, deels met hele trossen om frisheid en aromatische complexiteit te versterken. De vergisting verloopt met inheemse gisten, met minimale extractie om finesse te bewaren. De wijn rijpt vervolgens ongeveer 10 tot 12 maanden in gebruikte eikenhouten vaten en grotere houten cuves, gevolgd door een korte flesrijping vóór vrijgave.

Het domein.
Claude Riffault behoort tot de meest gerespecteerde producenten van Sancerre en staat bekend om zijn precieze, elegante stijl, zowel voor wit als rood. Het domein werkt volledig biologisch, met sterke aandacht voor biodiversiteit, bodemgezondheid en handmatig werk in de wijngaard. In de kelder wordt minimale interventie nagestreefd, zodat elk perceel zijn eigen karakter kan tonen. “La Noue” Rouge is een overtuigend voorbeeld van hoe Pinot Noir in Sancerre kan uitblinken door finesse, frisheid en een duidelijke terroirexpressie.

Since this is the skin of a dead sheep, it depends on live sheep girth. Anything bigger would likely have to be sewn together from multiple dead sheep. I find the girth of this sheep pelt perfectly acceptable. It is nice and thick and soft and fairly easy to vacuum. I frequently recline on it when stretched out on the floor, and am grateful it does not leave a mess or make noise like my dog, who should be grateful that his pelt is still attached to his body.
