Victron Skylla-IP65 24/35(1+1): Professional-Grade 24V Battery Charger for Demanding Environments

Engineered for Reliability in Harsh Conditions

The Victron Skylla-IP65 24/35(1+1) is a robust, fully sealed battery charger designed to deliver dependable power in the toughest environments. Its IP65-rated steel enclosure, finished in a durable epoxy powder coat, provides complete protection against dust and water ingress, making it ideal for marine, industrial, and off-grid applications where exposure to moisture, salt air, and extreme temperatures is a constant challenge. Internal circuit boards receive an additional acrylic conformal coating, offering superior corrosion resistance and ensuring long-term reliability even in high-humidity settings.

Unlike standard chargers that can fail prematurely under thermal stress, the Skylla-IP65 employs active forced-air cooling and integrated temperature sensors. These sensors continuously monitor critical power components, automatically reducing output current if necessary to prevent overheating and maintain operation within safe limits, even at ambient temperatures up to 60°C. This intelligent thermal management significantly reduces the risk of charger failure and extends service life.

Dual-Output Configuration and Adaptive 7-Stage Charging

This (1+1) model features two isolated outputs: a powerful 35A main output for your primary battery bank and a dedicated 3A output specifically designed to maintain a starter battery. At the core of the Skylla-IP65 is an advanced 7-stage adaptive charge algorithm, meticulously optimised for lead-acid batteries. This intelligent system dynamically adjusts the absorption phase duration based on the depth of the previous discharge—shortening it after shallow cycles to prevent overcharging, and extending it after deep discharges to ensure a full, complete recharge.

For sealed batteries, the BatterySafe mode actively prevents excessive gassing by limiting the rate of voltage increase once the gassing threshold is reached, protecting the battery from damage. When the battery remains idle for 24 hours, the Storage mode automatically engages, reducing float voltage to 26.4V to minimise positive plate corrosion and electrolyte stratification. A weekly refresh charge further prevents sulphation, while the included battery temperature sensor provides automatic voltage compensation—a critical feature for installations subject to wide temperature swings.

Precision Charging with Voltage Sense and Power Supply Mode

Voltage drop across long cable runs can compromise charging accuracy. The Skylla-IP65 24/35(1+1) features a dedicated voltage sense input that measures the actual battery terminal voltage, automatically compensating for cable losses to ensure the battery receives the precise charge voltage required. This is particularly valuable in large marine installations where the charger may be located some distance from the battery bank.

Thanks to its exceptionally stable output regulation, the Skylla-IP65 can also function as a high-quality DC power supply when batteries or large buffer capacitors are not available, providing clean, regulated power for sensitive 24V equipment. The integrated LCD display allows for easy status monitoring and simple adaptation of the charge algorithm.

Advanced Connectivity and System Integration

Built for modern energy systems, the Skylla-IP65 includes a dual RJ45 CAN-bus interface supporting the NMEA2000 protocol. This allows seamless integration with Victron's GX monitoring devices, such as the Cerbo GX, and enables synchronised parallel operation of multiple chargers. Simply interconnecting units with standard UTP cables ensures coordinated charging and balanced load sharing.

For lithium-ion (LiFePO4) battery banks, the charger offers flexible control options. A remote on-off port accepts a signal from a battery management system (BMS) for simple charge enable/disable control, while the CAN-bus port allows complete, real-time control of charge voltage and current for fully integrated lithium systems.

Built to Solve Real-World Charging Challenges

In marine, mining, and remote off-grid installations, charger failure is not an option. The Skylla-IP65 addresses common failure points—corrosion, overheating, and inaccurate charging—with a design that prioritises protection and precision. Its sealed construction eliminates the risk of salt-laden air corroding internal electronics, while the adaptive charging logic prevents the chronic overcharging or undercharging that silently destroys batteries.

Elegant! 👍👍
I didnt just want a WDT tool. They basically all do the same job. I wanted something that was elegant and beautiful to look at. This is it! No plastic here. The base is solid metal and thick heavy at the bottom so as to not get knocked over. Top is a real nice smooth wood.

Looks great - Heavy base - Solid beautiful walnut handle - Replacement wires
This is a really nice looking wire distribution tool for espresso portafilter baskets. The base is a very handsome shaped solid aluminum that has a good amount of heft to it, so it won't easily get knocked over. And it's perfectly aligned with the ascetics of the solid walnut handle that makes this look great. The walnut handle, from what you can see in the photos, is made from about 7 to 8 laminated pieces of walnut; it's not just an end cap or veneer. It may not be a single piece of walnut, but it would be dimensionally stable and less prone to crack over time.. This distribution tool has 7 stainless steel needles that helps to break up clumps (see photos). I found it done a pretty great job but for the sake of preventing a mess, I found it was easier to stab the grinds from the top, and then produce a small tight circle, which I repeated a few times. I felt that if I were to just stir the fine grinds in big circles, it would have knocked a lot of them out of the basket. I'm sure with more usage, I would perfect the technique with far less mess. I later realized later that a dosing funnel would actually be very useful in preventing any mess and it would help keep the grinds in place (see comments below). This set comes with an additional 7 needles, but as you can see in the photos, I left them in the packaging and did not get them out. I was curious how they were held in place in the handle, so foolishly I tried to remove the plug with my fingers and they slipped and I wound up pinching the needles. This happened before I took the photos, which explains why they are not perfectly straight and parallel to each other. I found this to be somewhat disappointing because they looked really awesome how perfectly aligned they were before I bent a few of them trying to remove the base. My point of this warning is that the needles do bend if forced, so be careful with them. That is why I did not want to remove the replacements. To be clear, these are stainless steel needles that have a great deal of flexibility to them, and they do not easily bend, but they are also difficult to get perfectly straight again. My error was that when I was trying to remove the base, the pinching grip I was using bent a few of the needles when my fingers slipped off the base. The base of the handle, in which needles are set, is friction set in to the handle. I was not able to remove it by using my fingers since it is that well secured. It looks and feels like aluminum which matches the base. My suggestion on removal of the plug, is to use pliers that are wrapped with a generous layer of tape to protect the finish of the aluminum plug. Overall, I think this is a really attractive set. The handle really looks warm and rich in the natural tones and grains of the walnut. It is perfectly paired with a strikingly handsome aluminum base that has a good amount of weight to it so it won't easily fall over if slightly brushed. The needles do retain a residue of grinds, as you can see in my photos, but it's not much. But the base, being hollow allows them to fall through to the counter top so they won't collect in blind hole. The hollow design of the base also allows it to be easily cleaned too. The needles are nice and long, and effective, but I foolishly bent a few on accident and I ruined the charm of how they looked when they were all perfectly parallel to each other. I'm on the fence as to if this really makes a better espresso. It does eliminate lumps and evens out the grinds as it's designed to do. I usually use 14.0 grams of grinds in my portafilter, but to prevent a mess with stirring the grinds with this tool, I went with 11.1 grams, which was not enough to build up any pressure in my espresso machine. I realize with more use, I will get better and more comfortable with increasing the amount of grinds. I also just noticed that I could really benefit from using a dosing funnel while using this needle distribution tool, and would eliminate most of the mess. Coffee is always a fun adventure, and with this tool set, I've opened a new door to explore, but I think I really need a dosing funnel to do this one better. I love the way this looks, and it really fits in with almost any setup with it's design, shape, and colors. This would be an excellent gift for any espresso lover out there, even someone who may not be so fanatical with the process. If you are thinking about gifting this to someone special, and you also happen to know what size their portafilter is (the diameter), then I strongly suggest getting a dosing funnel too so their first use is far more successful and pleasant than what mine was. The better their first impression may be, the more likely they will fall in love with this and want to keep exploring the possibilities.

Beautiful and functional
This is the first espresso distribution tool I've ever used, so I wasn't sure if it would really make a difference. I haven't had a home espresso machine for 15+ years, so I figured now that I am home more, I'd get all the accessories to do it right. This is a beautiful piece that is very functional. It's simple to use to even out the grounds to provide for a more even flow of water through the coffee. Since I got this and used it from my very first espresso, I actually didn't test doing it without this tool to see if it made a noticeable difference. Because I've never used one before, I'm not sure what features to compare to others, so I don't know if the current $24.99 is good or not. It seems high for such a simple product, and I probably would never consider getting it if I hadn't been given the opportunity to get one through the Amazon Vine program. But as part of my new espresso routine, I do think it contributes to making a delicious cup of coffee. It certainly can't hurt and is part of my regular ritual now.
