The Hand Forged Viking Battle Axe is a high carbon steel Skeggox-style bearded axe for bushcraft users, Norse collectors and Viking enthusiasts who want real cutting performance with authentic historical character. The deeply carved black hardwood handle adds grip stability and strong visual impact, while Nordic detailing is engraved across the blade and handle. A fitted leather sheath is included for carry and storage. Built by hand and finished by JW SteelCrafts.

What Is a Viking Bearded Battle Axe

The bearded profile belongs to the wider Viking Age axe tradition, where axes were common tools and, in some cases, decorated grave goods. The National Museum of Denmark notes that many Vikings owned axes, and that some examples were more elaborately decorated than others.

The engraved Nordic detailing on this axe also connects to a real historical writing tradition. Runes were used across Scandinavia for centuries, and the runic alphabet is attested from roughly the 3rd century onward.

The Skeggox Profile: Design and Historical Context

The bearded head gives the axe a longer usable cutting edge without unnecessary extra weight. That makes the design effective for controlled woodwork, shaping and light camp tasks, while still keeping the overall profile compact and practical.

Why the Blackened Carved Handle Matters for Grip and Aesthetics

The carved black hardwood handle gives this axe a more substantial feel in the hand and a stronger visual identity on display. The carved surface adds texture, while the dark finish ties the whole piece together as a coordinated Norse-inspired tool.

Key Features of This Blackened Viking Battle Axe

High Carbon Steel Engraved Bearded Head

The high carbon steel head is built for edge performance and detail work. The bearded geometry allows closer hand placement behind the edge for carving, shaping and controlled cuts, while the engraved Nordic detail gives the axe its distinct Norse character.

Deep Nordic Carved Black Hardwood Handle

The carved hardwood handle is finished in black for a strong, unified look. The carving adds grip texture and visual depth, while the reinforced wrap at the grip zone helps improve handling during more demanding use.

Included Fitted Leather Sheath for Field Carry

A fitted leather sheath ships with every axe. It protects the edge during carry and transport and is shaped to fit the bearded profile properly, so the axe is ready for use as soon as it arrives.

Product Specifications

Blade length, overall length, handle length, steel type and hardness rating should be added here before publishing. Buyers comparing Viking axes usually look for exact measurements and steel details before they purchase.

How to Use Your Viking Battle Axe

For carving and precision woodwork, choke your grip close behind the beard. That shortens your control radius and gives you better accuracy on smaller cuts. For kindling and light chopping, grip lower on the handle to gain more arc and leverage.

After each use, wipe the blade clean with a dry cloth and apply a thin coat of mineral oil or blade oil. For long-term storage, keep the blade out of the leather sheath and store the axe in a dry place.

Who This Blackened Viking Axe Is Built For

Bushcraft campers and outdoor enthusiasts will appreciate the compact, capable profile and practical edge control. Viking reenactors and Norse collectors will value the bearded head geometry, engraved blade and hand-finished carved handle. Gift buyers will find the combination of craftsmanship, included sheath and historical look makes it a memorable choice for birthdays, anniversaries and groomsmen gifts.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Viking Battle Axe

Is this axe functional for outdoor use?

Yes. The high carbon steel bearded head is built for light to moderate camp tasks, including carving, kindling preparation and controlled woodwork. The carved hardwood handle supports stable handling in outdoor conditions.

What type of steel is the head made from?

The axe head is made from high carbon steel. Add the exact grade and hardness rating before publishing so buyers can compare it properly against other Viking axes.

Does it include a sheath?

Yes. A fitted leather sheath is included with every axe at no additional cost.

What does the Nordic carving look like?

The handle features deep carved Nordic patterning through the hardwood shaft. Because the piece is hand-finished, minor variation may appear between individual axes.

How do I maintain the blackened finish?

Wipe the blade clean after use and apply a light coat of oil to protect the steel and engraved surface. Keep it dry, and avoid long-term storage inside the leather sheath.

Is this a good gift for someone who loves Viking culture?

Yes. The carved black hardwood handle, engraved steel head and included leather sheath make it a distinctive gift for Norse collectors, history lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.

A Beta Worth Rooting For
Format: Kindle
In Spare, Violet Fox flips the omegaverse on its head, giving us a Beta heroine determined to make her mark. Joining the Beta Trials to support her sick father, she's thrown into a pack that doesn't want her, especially the possessive Alphas. But here's the twist: their sweet Omega turns out to be her scent match. Cue the angst, forbidden tension, and a slow-burn romance that will make your heart ache in the best way. Violet Fox delivers an emotional, refreshing take on the genre, proving Betas aren't "spares." They're stars.

Beta, Alpha, Omega oh my!
Format: Kindle
Omegas are precious and given to Alphas & their packs... but the Betas want in too. To this end, the Beta government is rolling out its trial of assigning a Beta to each Alpha-Omega pack. But forcing a Beta into a pack where they are not wanted will not end well... Of course, no one expected the Omega to fall for the assigned Beta. Great read and cliffhanger

A familiar story, just with…..less.
Format: Kindle
So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.

Fantastic writing and non-stop action
Format: Kindle
This is a promising, fantastic beginning to what will be a 4-book series. Some readers may be content to read only the first 2 books, but I think you'll find that the story is so good that you'll want to keep reading books 3 and 4. Book 1 is about omega Elvana's introduction to the "Starling" brothers and their search for another missing person, Kelly. It's a bit of a rocky start, with deception and betrayal a key element. Hardly an auspicious beginning. Each member has their own path and purpose in the pack. Their interactions and the resulting narrative are so well-written that I found it difficult to put down. There is a cliffhanger that will have you reaching for book 2 as you finish, so make sure you have it on hand.

Fun read
Format: Kindle
I'm not really into mafia books but I love Roxy Collin's other series so I decided to give it a try. It had the same great romance, spice, swoon-worthy characters and exciting plot that are her signature. Arben was my favorite, although it was a bit sudden how quickly he changed from ignoring her to wanting to be pack. There were almost too many twists/layers of lies to keep track of but I'm looking forward to reading the other books. The only thing that detracted from the story for me was the need for a bit more proofreading. It was mentioned that Kelly is a female and male at different points, leading me to think she changed her mind at some point about the character's gender but didn't go back and edit it to align in all places. Like another reviewer pointed out, step siblings are different than half siblings. They are incorrectly referred to as step siblings because they (allegedly) share the same biological dad. There are a few other typos as well but those aren't a big deal.
