Digital Studio is a studio art class offered at Washington University in St. Louis. This anthology collects work created by students during a class project that explores one of the most vibrant mediums of communication, the comic.
From hieroglyphics to newspapers to webcomics, sequential art has told stories for thousands of years. Over time, a vast array of methodologies stemming from both design and fine arts have emerged to bring such stories to life.
Each student was assigned to make a 1-page autobiographical comic, with at least 6 panels, about one of the following subjects: an embarrassing moment in oneÕs life or an event that was life-changing in some way. One of the goals of the assignment, apart from effectively communicating a visual story, was to explore different approaches for integrating digital software in the creation of the story. The final student work was at turns hilarious and heartbreaking, fearlessly imaginative and consistently revelatory.
