While the last Kompakt offering from legendary Russian synthesists SCSI-9 dates back to 2008, when the duo released their album Easy As Down (KOMP 068CD), co-founder and techno/house virtuoso Anton Kubikov kept himself busy cultivating his own label Pro-Tez Records and establishing a career as solo artist with a clear penchant for dub-infused soundscapes and ambient music. Whatness is Kubikov's first solo full-length under his proper name. Weaving airy and iridescent sonic tapestry, Whatness takes up where his excellent contributions to Kompakt's Pop Ambient compilations left off. Anton Kubikov's special ear for ambience and tonal spaces was always an integral part of SCSI-9's musical DNA, alternating between tight dance workouts and vast melodic range. But it's as a solo artist that he truly started to explore these spaces, following mysterious sonic trails into foggy, reverb-heavy territory. Kubikov's contributions to the several installments of Kompakt's Pop Ambient compilation series announced the arrival of a promising new project, a promise more than satisfied with the immersive sound bath of first solo outing Whatness. Going from the richly layered electronic drones of "Liquid Mirror" or "Entrance" to the lush ambient dub of "Other The Sea" and "Kurt's Forest", or the minimalist, evocative piano of "Oktober" and "Pia", the album covers a lot of stylistic ground, but remains committed to it's overall aesthetic of misty mountains and serene valleys. With the endearing "April", a true Pop Ambient classic from the 2016 compilation (KOMP 128CD/KOM 345LP) makes a welcome return, priming the canvas for the subtle bass throb of "North" and it's charming synth bell orchestra. Masterfully refining and extending his sonic pallet on Whatness, Anton Kubikov can claim his spot among the very best of today's ambient composers.

Emotional read with children
Format: Kindle
Cammie is a single mother of two children whose ex-boyfriend, who is an alpha that he met his scent matched omega and dumped her via messenger on his phone then the next day put their house up for sale. Cammie moves back to her hometown, but because she has no support, is working two jobs to keep her and the children in a small rented house. One night her four year gets out of the house and she meets a neighbour, but she refuses to make the same mistake again by getting involved with another alpha, but Reid is convinced they are scent matched mates even though Cammie is a beta. Reid and his omega Fin start to court Cammie and her two children that they belong together as a pack and family. Cammie's ten year old son is a tough one to convince, but the scenes between him and Reid and Fin, they were so good. I was tearing up at times, found family was a big theme and I really liked this book. I highly recommend that you try it too.

Good start to a series

I delayed reading the series for reasons I don’t remember. But my TBR list is huge so I thought I’d take a shot of this and I was pleasantly surprised. I didn’t think the blurb about it was anything special. But it was a very good book. It took some interesting twists and turns. I am so glad the second book is already out. Because I would not have waited patiently. Very slow burn but good storyline. 🔥🔥/5

A good read

Multiple points of view. 3 Alpha men and an Omega male. She is a Beta in training for a new program placing betas in Alpha/Omega packs. Mila is only doing the program for the money to take care of her dad. She wasn't expecting to fall for a pack but when she sees this packs Omega she is done for. There is just something about him. His Alphas are good looking as well. Too bad she is hiding a secret and their government is acting shady. I liked it and can't wait to see where their story goes.

Slightly repetitive but I did love some things

I love this type of story. And omegaverse is one of my all time favorite genres. But there are a few things that pulled me out of my enjoyment while I was reading. It was repetitive at times as well as struggled with telling not showing. So we didn’t always feel like we were experiencing things with the main character. There were also some plot holes but they may still be answered in part 2.
Now this isn’t to be said I didn’t enjoy parts of the story. I loved the almost instant love between Mila and Oliver. And how he started changing around her.

delightful read

What a delightful read. The characters are awesome, the plot was so good, I loved it. I was intrigued and it kept me wanting more. Told in multiple pov, the book sucks you in and doesn’t let go. I cannot wait to read the next book.
