You still be in pain but you can sleep," says Elizabeth King of the power of gospel music, during a conversation upstairs at producer Bruce Watson's Delta-Sonic Studio in her hometown of Memphis, TN. This first reissue from the D-Vine Spirituals Recordings showcases King, who has an incredible ability to simmer and then raise the heat. The gospel hit from King's pen, "I Heard the Voice" is only the tip of the iceberg. Witness her intensity on "Jesus Is My Captain," with a wah-wah guitar grooving, which also drives the funky "Wait on the Lord." "Down Here Waiting" is the very definition of a Memphis backbeat. "I Found Him" finds her singing, "I found him to be my hellhound chaser. I found him to be my midnight rider." The traditional "I'll Fly Away" is done here a la Chuck Berry's "Maybellene," fast and joyful. Born in Grenada, MS, King grew up in Charleston to a mother who taught her to sing. "I would sing hymn songs," she says. Often ill as a child, she turned to song as a way to get through. As she grew up, she learned to interpret them in her own style. She laughs as she says, "I like to move when I sing." Married and moving to Memphis in 1960, followed by a short stint in Chicago ("I couldn't get used to the weather or how they went to church"), then back to Memphis, King first joined the Gospel Souls in 1969 after seeing them in concert. (The male vocal band had previously been on Halo Records and Designer Records, the latter catalogue explored in several exemplary Big Legal Mess releases.) She had always envisioned being backed by male singers. She was told, "If they got jealous wives, I wouldn't." But it worked out. She says, "I stayed 33 years with them.

I really wanted to like this pillow but I didn't, My son did.

I bought two of these Medium pillows for summer camp that my son and I went to this year. Let me start by saying the only reason I don't like it is because its too soft and small for me. By soft I mean the pillow bottoms out when I put my head on it. I measured and it is 4" thick but when I put my head on it, it almost disappears. They could add 20-25% more stuffing and it would be great. My son liked his, I didn't even bring mine. What I did do is stuff a standard size memory foam pillow in the stuff sack and used that! The quality of this pillow is great, the seams were not torn or coming undone like some people said, no rips or stains. the zippier works just fine and IT IS MEMORY FOAM, people who complain that it's not are expecting a brick of foam which this isn't, it is shredded/torn memory foam filling that is exactly like my $60 memory foam pillows that I use on my bed. TLDR its great for kids, not for people with bowling balls for heads like me. WISE OWL, ADD MORE FILLING ! I was able to stuff a pillow 3x the size of this one in the same bag.

Wise owls pillow

I used this for kayak camping easy to pack back in bag light weight also I can take cover off to wash it. Plus I sleep so good at night with pillow no more getting up in morning with a sore neck I highly recommend this

I purchased the toddler size as a back support pillow. Quality! Firmness!

I LOVE this pillow! OK, I admit that I just got it and opened it, but I already know I'm going to love it.
I purchased the toddler-sized pillow to use behind my back in the car or on an airplane - or maybe just a snuggle pillow in the bed - a tiny version of a body pillow. I got exactly what I wanted! This pillow is exquisitely crafted, and I can feel the cooling quality already. I purchased a brand new silk zippered pillow case for it. I inserted the pillow in the case right away because I know it's going to expand over the next 72 hours - to the perfect firmness, I hope. I'm afraid if I wait until tomorrow it might not be able to fit into the pillowcase!
Some people here have reported a distaste for the firmness of this pillow, but I'm looking forward to it. So, I recommend if you want to really firm pillow, you had better put it right in the pillowcase when you get it, because you might not be able to stuff it in if you wait 72 hours!
By the way, this pillowcase has absolutely zero smell, so don't bother your sleepy head about that.

Great pillow for side sleepers!

I bought these pillows at first because I wanted to try out the “coolness” of them (I live in a place with no AC). They’re definitely not cold, but they do a good job of regulating the heat on particularly hot/stuffy nights.
But my favorite thing about these by far is the support! I’m a side sleeper, and these are just the right amount of firm to tuck between your shoulder and neck that keeps your neck in a good position all night, while still soft and comfy for your head! I’ve been sleeping on them for about 2 months now and they have maintained their shape really well. Definitely recommend!
