Dieses bewegende Foto zeigt einen Moment der Ruhe für die Besatzung des Panzers Sherman V "Clanky", befehligt von Major Dave Currie (VC) des 29th Reconnaissance Regiment (South Alberta Regiment), südlich von Caen, in der Nähe von May-sur-Orne und Verrières, am 28. Juli 1944.

Von links nach rechts sind die Soldaten Tp G Holstrom, Cpl J Lardner und Tp D Mitchell zu sehen, fotografiert vor ihrem Einsatz in einer der prägendsten Kampagnen der Befreiung Frankreichs. Der Clanky, der ihre Einheit symbolisierte, wurde einige Monate später, am 28. Oktober 1944, in Bergen op Zoom zerstört, Opfer eines zu kurz gefallenen kanadischen Geschosses. Zum Glück überlebten die Besatzungsmitglieder sowie Major Currie dieses tragische Ereignis.

Dieses Bild hat die Gemüter bewegt und zierte am 16. Dezember 1944 das Cover des Magazins Liberty, was vom Heldentum und den Opfern der kanadischen Streitkräfte während des Zweiten Weltkriegs zeugt.
